Abstract

Mitsusuke Tarama: „Dynamics of a self-propelled soft particle under external forcing”
Kyoto University, Japan

In this seminar, I'd like to talk about our research on the dynamics of a self-propelled soft particle under external forcing in a two-dimensional space. Our analysis is based on the model equations derived from the symmetry argument for the velocity of the centre of mass and a tensor variable characterizing deformation. Here, we consider two types of external force. One is a gravitational force, which enters additively into the time-evolution equation of the velocity vector. The other is an electric force supposing that a dipole moment is induced in the particle. This force affects the time-evolution equation of the deformation tensor. We have carried out numerical simulations of the time-evolution equations. As a result, a variety of dynamical states and dynamical phase diagram are obtained by changing the magnitude of the external force. Theoretical analysis has also been developed to reproduce some of the bifurcations.
