Abstract

H. Burak Eral: „Manipulating soft matter with wettability: From drops on fibers to coffee stains”
Physics of Complex Fluids, Dept. Science and Technology, University of Twente

In this talk, I will discuss how our knowledge of classic wetting phenomena can be evoked to control colloidal assembly. To demonstrate the idea, I will discuss two example cases. I will first discuss a classic wetting problem how a drop wets a fiber [1] and its implication on extending the building blocks for colloidal assembly. Secondly, I demonstrate the influence of macroscopic wettability on colloidal assembly in evaporating droplets [2].
